BILLIARDS.
LINDRUM V. SMITH. SNOOKER MATCH COMMENCED. The snooker match between Walter Lindrum, Australia, and: W. Smith, Ghristchurch, was commenced last evening at the National Billiard Parlours. A series.of eighteen is being played, Smith receiving 21 points start per game.
■ Each player won three games, but on the evening's play, Smith finished in front, as Lindrum was conceding 126 points in the six games, and failed to reach the local 'man by 24 points.' Lindrum made the, best break of the evening, 65... The local player did remarkably well, and quite held his own on the evening's play. The games will be continued this evening at 8 o 'clock,.

In the New Zealand • amateur [billiards championship, M. D. White defeated the present titleholder, E. V. Roberts, by 77 points. White established an early lead and Roberts was unable to overtake him. The final stage has not yet been reached.
