LEITHFIELD.

The Leithfield School Swimming Club held a meeting on Monday. Present: Messrs D. W. Palmer (chairman), H. May, D. McLean, J S. Eussell, J. W. Sarich, and Mts C. ;H. Trail (hon. secretary). It was decided not to affiliate with the N.Z.A.S.A. this season. The bath is to be opened on November 20th. Mr and Mrs John Gibbs, of Wairoa, are the guests of Mrs Percy Jones. Mr Alfred Eaton has returned to the North Island. BELFAST.

Court Star of Belfast A.O.F. celebrated its fortieth anniversary on Tuesday. P.C.R. Bro. E. J. Wotton, amem> ber of 37 years' standing occupied the chair.' Occupying a place of honour at the table was P.C.R.. Bro. E. Thompson, the sole surviving foundation member of the Court. In proposing "Court Star," Bro. 0. Jacobson, district secretary, gave a brief history of the Lodge, showing the wonderful progress it had made. The toast was responded to by P. C. E. Thompson and P.D.C.R. Bro. E. Eudkin. Other toasts honoured were, "The Canterbury District Executive Officers," proposed by P.C.B. Bro; E. J. Wotton and replied to by D.C.B. Bro. Cummings, and the district secretary. "Kindred Societies,"., proposed by P.C.B. Bro. G. Brown, and responded to by Bro. F. Durey (Papanui Oddfellows), and Bro. J. Grimley (Belfast Orange Lodge). "The Performers," proposed by P.C.E. Bro. J. Halligan. "Sister Courts," proposed by P.D.C.E. Bro. D. C. McArthur, and replied to by Bro. Sey (Court Papanui). Items were given by Messrs J. Lockhart, L. Eyan, Davey, and Spicer. Those present at the monthly meeting of the Belfast School Committee were: Mesdames Spencer, Martin, and Lange, Messrs W. P. Spencer (chairman), A. Brown, T. Morton, and A. Johnson. An apology was received from the secretary, Mr J. Don. The chairman moved a motion of sympathy and condolence with the relatives of the late* Miss Eoscoe, infant school mistress. Correspondence was received from the Building Committee of the Canterbury - Education Board, intimating its intention of inspecting a proposed site for a new school.' The concert given by the Christchurch Scottish Society in aid of the school funds, resulted in a profit of £lO 15s 6d. Mrs Lange and Mr A. Brown were. appointed a visiting committee for the month. HORRELVILLE. On Saturday the cricket team played a drawn game with Loburn. Batting first, Loburn compiled 92 (F. Hill and Hoskin being top scorers). Horrelville had made 49 for # the loss of five wickets when time was called, Horrell and Paterson scoring double figures. The best bowlers for Horrelville were Dennis, Johnson, and Eder, and for Loburn, Hoskin and Hill. SPRINGSTON SOUTH. The Springston South Sunday 6chool held its annual anniversary tea and prize-giving concert on Friday evening. Much credit is due to Miss A. Quayle for the way she had trained the children and to the other teachers for their good work. The programme for the concert consisted of pianoforte duets by Mrs H. Fletcher and Hazel Greaves; pianoforte solos, Hazel Greaves and Frank Hewitt, dialogues, Misses- A. and M. Quayle and the Sunday school scholars; duet. Woods's many friends will w sorry to hear she has had to take tc her bed. Her condition is causing anxiety. Miss Eva Musson has returned hom« after her recent sojourn. in hospital.
