MINERS ON STRIKE.
DISPUTE AT GLEN AFTON COLLIERIES.
(press association telegeam.) HAMILTON, November 7. The Glen Afton Collieries have been idle since yesterday afternoon. All the miners, totalling nearly 300, have ceased work owing to a dispute on the question of whether the dampness is sufficient _to justify pay to truckers in accordance with the agreement. Negotiations with the management are proceeding. The mine is owned by the New Zealand Co-opera-tive Dairy Company. The strike was the subject of a conference at Hamilton this afternoon between the miners' representatives and the management of the New Zealand Co-operative Company. No statement was obtainable except that Mr Dvnes Fulton, chairman, and Mr W. Goodfellow, managing director, will meet the miners at Glen Afton to-morrow. Meantime the mine is still idle. .
