AN INNINGS VICTORY.

CANTERBURY BEATS MINOR. ASSOCIATIONS,

The Canterbury representative team proved itself altogether too strong for the team■» presenting the Minor Associations o* South Canterbury, Ashburton, and West Coast yesterday, winning by an innings and 101 runs. The attack of the visitors. *"""'*" much weakened by the defection of J. Kane, C. Dewar, and G. Spender, who were origin continued .{*, « yesterday morning I. «. Hamilton whorae overnight score was 114, did not "■«»*,££ Merritt (40). and Lester carried on. Neither lasted long, but a good ™ established between W. Oliver *»*.;*>£"*"• The latter, in compiling his. gave a very good display, showing good scor ing shots and an unusually sound defence. Oliver, although he played a bright ™*™S*> was fortunate in that. many of h > s y/ c °" n F shots, which were uppish, fell out of reacn of the field. ' ' „__ rt _ Revoll was rather unlucky, and was the only bowler to give the opposition any great amount of trouble. t n In the Minor Associations' innings, J. a. Nicol gave a very sound and patient display, and alone of the early batsmen offered confident opposition to the bowling, of Mottat. He gave & chance at 5 to the wusket-keeper off Bellamy, but thereafter he played a very sound innings, and one particularly valuable to his side. The tail wagged to very good effect, and a useful last-wicket stand was made by Charles (the ex-wesi Ohristchurch. player) and Revell. ■ Canterbury's attack was too strong for the Minor Associations, and only late in the afternoon, when the game was not being taken very seriously by the < Canterbury bowlers, was any successful resistance ma {j*Moffat was the outstanding bowler, and his five wickets were well deserved. He was breaking very sharply at times, and kept a fairly good length. ■ Merritt, although he took four wicketß, was not very impressive, and does not seem to be. in his best form. Dorreen had quite a field day behind the wickets, stumping threo and catching two, Scores :&-. MINOR ASSOCIATIONS. First Innings .. .. ■'••'' W Second Innings. J. B.
