AN ITALIAN DISPUTE.

LONG-AWAITED DECISION.

It will be recalled that Madame Canella, in April, 1927, was stated to have proved incontestibly that a man who was declared to be Professor Canella actually was her husband, who disappeared in the fighting in Macedonia in 1916. The police declared that the man was Bruneri, against Whom there were allegations of theft and wife desertion. Madame Canella's statement that marks on the man's body, hitherto not divulged, proved that the man was her husband, was considered to represent n smashing blow to the finger-print system, and she bore out her contention by sheltering the man in her home during the proceedings. She might have continued to shelter the man had not fresh evidence resulted in his recommittal to any asylum. A tribunal to-dnv decided that he was not Professor "Canella, but was Bruneri.—Australian Press Association. [The man, who was discharged from an asylum m Turin in March, 1927, and wno had forgotten his identity was identified by his wife, brother, children, cousins, and the parish priest as Professor Canella. He had been a lew days restored to his family when Madame Bruneri. of Turin, claimed him as her husband, who had deserted her seven years before. The police arrested the man. The resemblances were amazing. Both the men whom the exlunatic was claimed to be had, like him, a rib removed and identical fingerprints. After much investigation it was taken as proved that the mall Was the husband of Signora Canella.]
