IN GAOL AGAIN.
EX-DICTATOR OF GREECE.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) ATHENS, November 3. The ex-Dictator, General Pangalos, whose release from prison was one of the first acts of M. Venizelos, has again been imprisoned on a charge of manslaughter, having fired from a balcony upon a jeering crowd on the eve of the last elections. His release is expected pending his trial.—Australian Press Association.
[General Pangalos, who is a former commander-in-chief of the Greek Army, in June, 1925, served an ultimatum on the then Prime Minister, M. Michalakopoulis, demanding the resignation of the Government ui a threat of bombardment and aUack. The Government resigned, and Pangalos became Prime Minister, in 1926 proclaiming himself Dictator. He was overthrown without resistance in August by a coup d'etat engineered by General Kondvlis, and was imprisoned in a Cretan fortress. Early this year he faced trial on charges of illegally proclaiming himself Dictator. He was released on July 12th, following Cabinet's decision that his.detention was no longer justifiable in view of the dissolution of Parliament and consequently of a Commission which had been considering Pangalos's case since January last.]
