A YEAR OF PROGRESS.
* CANTERBURY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The Canterbury Horticultural Society has experienced a very successful year, both from a financial and a membership aspect. Tho annual report, to be presented at tho annual meeting on July lbth, states that during tho year 236 new members enrolled, bringing tho total up to 773, and that the finances are £169 18s 9d better than tho previous year. Four shows were given during the year, and an advance in entries and quality of exhibits was shown. There were many keen horticulturists in Cliristchurch, and their support has been generous. A new hall was obtained, which could seat 130 persons, and the attendance justified the act. During the year the Society benefited by an address from Dr. A. H. Hill, Director of the Kew Gardens, who spoke on "Kew Gardens from an Imperial Aspect." The thanks of the Society, says the report, are owing ttf those who gave special prizes and donations, and to the judges and stewards who ably assisted the secretary during the year. Special thanks are accorded to the ladies of the Society who assisted with a very profitable flower stall, and for the afternoon tea and supper arrangements.
