Although it is dangerous to prophesy with regard to the City Council, the business set down for disposal at tonight's meeting gives ho indication of the necessity for a lengthy sitting. Perhaps the most interesting debate will take place when the Town Clerk's report relating to the receipts and expenditure to March 31st, in\ connexion with the Municipal market will come up for discussion. ■■ . The Baths Committee is submitting its report on the takings of the baths for the year ended March 31st, which shows that while the receipts are slightly less'than the previous year,, they are in excess of the amount estimated.

The Council is being recommended to obtain legislation to validate _ any expenditure incurred in connexion with the. Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The Concert Hall Committee is making a recommendation regarding the purchase of a Municipal organ. The question of the installation of broadcasting apparatus in the new Concert Hall will be considered. In connexion with the opening festival at the Concert Hall, there is a surplus, with regard to which the Concert Hall Committee is recommending a portion should be divided among the ..Societies which assisted at the opening. The new fees for the use of the Concert Hall for matinee performances will be considered. The Concert Hall and Entertainments Committee is reporting the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association's request for permission to take up a collection in aid of the Association's Unemployment Fund. A quantity of petrol was seized lately, which was being stored. in a yard at premises which were not licensed to store petrol except underground, and the Council is being recommended to prosecute the owner of the premises.
