NEW BRIGHTON GALA.
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION
The gala .at New Brighton, inaugurated by the Christchurch -Municipal Band, which was postponed from last week, was held on Saturday, and proved a very successful function, attracting a large number of visitors. Splendid weather conditions prevailed,, adding to the pleasure of the entertainment. No effort had been spared to provide entertainment for the pleasureseekers. There were the usual attractions of side-shows, ■ chocolate alleys, swings, and flying boats. In the afternoon a treasure hunt was held, and this proved to be very popular with both young and old. The lure of the hidden prizes was very strong, and the excitement rose high when a fortunate seeker uncovered some treasure in the sand. In the evening a splendid fireworks display was given." Every kind .qf'.-firc-'works was discharged,- rockets soaring and Catherine- .wheels showering their .'sparks in ; all-directions. It was a night .Of',carnival for New .Brighton, and everybody -joined in the fun.
