RUN OVER BY TRAIN.
* MENTAL PATIENT'S DEATH. (I'RESS ASSOCIATION- TELEGRAM.) TE AWAMUTU, March 13. A man named Edward Hughes, aged about fifty, escaped from the Tokanui Mental Hospital in the early hours of this morning, and later a small boy found his body lying on the railway line a*, Temawhai, two miles from the hospital, cut to pieces. It is believed that he tried to join the north-bound Main Trunk express, which docs not stop at Temawhai. After the bov had discovered the mangled remains the north-bound Limited dashed along and further mangled the body. Identification was ascertained by deceased's shirt, which was of the institution pattern. Deceased bad been an inmate lot several vears. and was regarded as a mild case with an occasional aberration, when he made determined efforts to escape.
