TUBERCULOSIS.
PREVENTION BETTER THAN CURE. "I have been struck by the hopelessness of the treatment of tuberculosis," said Dr. I. C. Macintyre, assistant medical superintendent at the Cashmere Sanatorium, at the annual meeting of the Open-Air Schools League last evening- , . "The disease was discovered m 1882," added Dr. Macintyre. "It was thought that a cure would soon be found, but we are now in the same position as we were then. Our treatment is open air. Why don't we give it to the child renP 1 hwt> been advocating open-air schools because I think that tho prevention of tuberculosis is the only means of eradicating that disease. I think that a cure will never be found. schools will save much money, and lives. The cost of running the sanatoria in Christchurch is £40,000, and this money could be saved if the disease were prevented. I think that open-air schools would go a long way in doing that."
