LIFE-SAVING.
COMPETITION AT SUMNER. The competition for the cup given by Mr \v. H. Nicholson, Mayor of Sumner, known as the Mayoral Cup, was decided on the Sumner beach yesterday afternoon. The conditions were as nearly perfect as possible, and this, combined with the fact that no fewer than six teams were entered, made the competition ono of the most successful yet conducted by the club. Later in the afternoon Mr Nicholson announced the winning team and congratulated all the participants on the fine display. He introduced Mr D. V. Wilson, secretary of the Canterbury Surf Association, who commented on the team work. The competition, the conditions for-which , vcr c the same as the Sumner Cup, was a
four-man event, the beltman being nominated, and a ballot taken for the positions of ii nc . man and reelmnn. Points were given for lime, care of pn'icnt, Inking over of subject in water, resuscitation, care of patient in resuscitation. and the promotion of warmth. The results were as follows: — J.
