LONDON, January 13. Lord Byng's long deferred Viscouiitcy has been gazetted. It was conferred in October, 15)26, but Lord Byng refused to pay almost £IOOO in fees for the honour, for which politicians pay nothing. It i« understood that the Treasury has paid the fees.
[Viscount Byng of Vimy received his title in October, 1926. A son of the. Earl of Stafford, he joined the Army in 1883 and saw service in the Sudan and South Africa. He was in command of the forces in Egypt until the war gave him the new post of Commander of the Canadian Corps, after commanding the Cavalry Corps. in 1915 he was knighted. At the conclusion of the war he was raised to the peerace and received a grant or £3O 000 This followed his retirement from the Army in 1919. In 1921 he was appointed to succeed the Duke of Devonshire as Governor-General of Canada, a post he held till 1926. tie is sixty-four years of age.]
