Adolf Hotelling, charged with the murder of Dorothy Schneider at Flint, Michigan, was arraigned in a farmyard to avoid a mob of six thousand people who threatened to lynch him. A plea of not guilty was entered for him owing to his present state of confusion, due to hysteria:
