The annual meeting of the Ellesmere County Trotting Club was held at- Leeston ou Monday evening, Sir H. Gardiner presiding. The annual report stated that the race meeting held last April had been successful from a racing point of view. The incroaso in stakes bad not brought larger nominations, although the acceptances had been up to the average. The balance-sheet showed that the receipts for the year had fallen short of the liabilities incurred by £7l 16s 7d, but there were subscriptions outstanding amounting to £76 13s. The chairman and others considered that the liabilities should be cleared off before the club proceeded to make arrangements for its next race meeting. J[r li. T. McMillan urged that every effort .should be made to gather in outstanding subscriptions, and in this connexion linuncial members might assist. Mr B. T. McMillan reported upon his interview with the Ministor for Internal Affairs in July last regarding tho loan of a permit which a Jlerth Island Club was not using. Although the Minister had given him a good hearing, the request had not been successful. A suggestion by Mr D. Millar that tho club should endeavour to raise money by a •stock drive did not appeal to members nt the present stage, but Mr McMillan considered that if tho club secured a totalisator permit it could count upon raising o substantial sum in voluntary contributions towards the cost of improvements to the grounds.
