PRISONER'S SERIOUS INJURIES.

COURT EXTENDS LENIENCY.

(PfIUJS ASSOCIATION TBIBGBAM.) AUCKLAND, July 26. In the Supreme Court, James Cecil Phillips pleaded guilty to theft as a servant at Putaruru. He had previous to his arrest accidentally shot himself and lost one eye, and was likely to lose the sight of the other. Mr Justice Stringer said the prisoner had inflicted upon himself the most serious injuries, and it would be cruelty to subject him to imprisonment. There did not seem any possibility of him making restitution. He was ordered to come, up for sentence when called upon within twelve months.
