SKI RUNNING.
A RECORD TRIP.
Messrs K. Pratt, of Bushy Park, Gore, and A. Brustad, a Norwegian guide in the employ of the Mt. Cook Motor Company, established a record in ski running at Mt. Cook by covering approximately 45 miles in 15 hours over snow-clad, mountainous country.
The two set ofPfrom the Malte Brun at 5 a.m. ' and climbed Hochstetter Dome, crossed over to the head of the Murchison Glacier via the Tasman Saddle and north of Mt. Cooper, skiing down Mt. Cooper to the Tasman Glacier and reaching the Hermitage at 8 p.m. Practically the whole of the trip was done on the ski. Under summer conditions the trip would have taken about two days and would have necessitated preparations for extra food and possibly a night spent in the Murchison Valley. This is the first such feat attempted in winter excepting the winter ascent of Mt. Cook made by Mr R. L. Wigley with two guides. The trip was -in the nature of a trial on the part of the Mt; Cook Company to ascertain what could be done under winter conditions.
