CONCERT THIS EVENING

At tho Theatre Royal this evening, Ignaz Friedman, the famous Polish pianist, will, under the direction of E. J. Carroll, give the first of the two concerts allotted to Cbristcburch. The concerts given in Wellington, Auckland, Wanganui, Napier, and the return concerts given in Wellington on Saturday evening last were a series of musical triumphs and were marked by unusual crthusiaam. Exceptional interest is being manifested in to-night's concerts as the fame of Friedman has preceded him and the programme to be presented will make a very wide appeal in musical circles. This evening's principal programme numbers are: Hummel's Rondo, Mozart's Rondo, the 24 variations and fugue (Handel theme) by Brahms, to be followed by five Chopin works, Polonaise B flat major, waltz in E flat minor, Mazurka B minor, Ballade G minor, three studies, in octaves double thirds and b'ack keys. One of Friedman's famous com-l-ositiona will follow, Tabatiere A Musique, then in turn the Liszt Nocturne, Liebestraum and the Liszt-Schubert Serenade. The concluding programme number will be the gorgeous Canrpanella (Lis/rt). To these will he added special numbers from the great wasters and also several works by Friedriian. The box plans for both concerts ar-s at The Bristol, where five shilling day sale tickets may also be obtained.
