IGNAZ FRIEDMAN.

♦ CELEBRATED PIANIST COMPOSER. "Wiih inch an astc-undiJW teohniqiw «* the piano •« th»t perfected by the distinguished tone-poet, Ignas Friedman, who wfl], under the direotion of E. J Carroll, give two concerto at Christchurch in the Theatre Boyal, it might well be imagined that he could spare little time for any other phase of musical art. Absolute virtuosity such as his is only maintained by constant fidelity to the keyboard when not actually engaged in public appearances or on travels from country to country to please an insatiable army of admirers. Yet Friedman's name will occur to every lover of piano music as that of a profound and devoted editor of the complete works of Chopin ana Liszt, and a composer of a great number of original works for the instrument. Over eighty of hie original compositions have been published and are frequently met on programmes by other famous pianists on the European ■ Continent and America. The appearance of a year or more ago of the Friedman edition of Chopin's complete works established a new standard of perfection in the editing of the great Polish master of whom his fellow-Pole is such a world-famed exponent and authority. It consists of twelve volumes ranging from the r. ■ 't m' waltzes to the much too frequently played concertos and sonatas. Friedman has contrived throughout all of them to retain the characteristic traits of the originals i i addition to imbuing them with a veritable wea'th of the artistio, instructive, and interpretative ideas of His own. Literally, Friedman has become "the last word" on Chopin in two ways, as an executant and as editor. Beservations for the concerts, advertised for Tuesday and Wednesdiy next, may be made at The Bristol from \Ai» morning, and generous concessions to students are announced, and concession coupons may be obtained at the box office.
