OBITUARY.

DR. H. O. WASHBOURN,

RICHMOND.

(SPECIAL TO THB PEBSB.) NELSON, July 10. The death occurred in the early hours of this morning of Dr. H. 0. Washbourn, of Eichmond. It was only a little over a week ago that Dr. Washbourn was forced to take to bed with an acute attack of pneumonia. The late Dr. Washbourn was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs H. P. Washbourn, of Port Nelson. He was educated at Nelson College, and after a short term on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, Nelson, decided to take up studies for his medical degree. He proceeded to Edinburgh University, where he achieved his ambition, and after experience in Great Britain he returned to Nelson and commenced practice at Eichmond.

In private life Dr. Washbourn's hobby was the breeding of Jersey cattle. To this he brought his well-krrown enthusiasm, and imported the best of stock into the district, including some direct from Jersey Island. He was the first president of the Nelson Jersey Cattle Breeders' Club, and up to the time of his death was a member of the executive of the New Zealand JerseyCattle Breeders' Association. At the time of his death Dr. Washbourn was president of the Nelson Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and took very keen interest in the work of the Association and in the farming community generally. He was also keenly interested in all athletic sports, and gave considerable encouragement to various sports bodies. The late Dr. Washbourn was a brother of Dr. H. E.A. Washbourn, of Nelson, and of Mr Frank Washbourn, of Timaru. Tie .leaves a' widow, one son, and two daughters.
