FOUND DEAD.

OLD WEST COAST SETTLER. (special to the pbess.) ..,,., GREYMOUTH, July 17. The Hokitika police received advice to-day that Archibald McArthur, a former well-known settler of Koiterangi and Kokatahi, who has resided m North Revell street, Hokitika, for some years past, had been found in his hut. When found he was sitting in a chair with a rtfg over his head and a gas tube with the gas turned on m his hand. \ Dr. Teichelmann was immediately called, but pronounced that life had been extinct for about half an hour or more as the result of gas poisoning. McArthur was a former director of the Kotatahu dairy factory. He underwent a painful operation some time ago, and had been in ill-health for a considerable time. He was seen a short time before by a neighbour. McArthur is survived bv two daughters, Mrs R. Meharry (Hawera) and Mrs W. Wall (Herepo) and an adopted son, Mr C. McArthur (Greymouth).
