CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Canterbury Caledonian Society, to be , presented by the president (Mr C. S. Thomas) at the annual meeting on Monday night, says: From a perusal of the receipts and expenditure account it is clear that the year of 1926 has proved again a successful one from a financial point of view. The sum of £6O 9s 3d stands to the credit of the benevolent fund, the sum of £6 11b 3d to the sinking and maintenance fund, and the receipts and expenditure account shows a credit balance of £6l 83 6d. It is felt, however, that although the year has' been a success financially, it has not been all it should have been from a social point of view. The directors feel that in some way there has been a lack of warmth and friendliness amongst the. members, with the result that a certain amount of enthusiasm has been lacking. During the forthcoming year it is intended to pay more attention to the welcoming of new members to the Society, and committees will be set up with this end in view. Our hall shows a credit balance on the year's working of £26 Is lOd. During the jear £l3B 10s 6d has been spent in alterations, painting, and papering. The property is in excellent condition, and a number of our lettings are now annual ones, thus ensuring a regular income. The t'ipa Banc! has done good work during the season, and is showing the benefit of the Pipe-Major's plan of introducing players whom he has taught. The thanks of the Society ara aue to Pipe-Major Shunahan, Drum-Major Ross, and the Ban! for the great assistance they have given the Society. Several innovations will be made this year in order to improve our socials. It has ( been decided that on our concert nights a special pianist shall be appointed to play the accompaniments, and Jackson's Jazz Band to supply the dance music afterwards. On the dance nights the music will be played by Jackson's Jazz Band It is with sincere regret that we nave to record the death of out late friend, Mr George Ritchie. In the loss of Mi Ritchje the Society has lost one of its 'most valued members.
