The Hororata Racing Clubs Annual Meeting will bo held on Saturday, and ivith line weather, a very enjoyable day's racing should be provided. Acceptances for all events close at o o'clock this evening at the Canterbury Jockey Club's rooms. Shirlev and her half-brother, King's Folly, both of whom were successful at the Wellington Racing Club's Autumn Meeting, last month, will be competitors at the Canterbury Jockey Club s Easter Meeting.

Commendation was worked at papier Park last week, and ridden by_ L. G. Morris gave very attractive displays.

Mrs M. A. Perry lias purchased another English-bred horse. _ This is the six-year-old stallion Cockpit, by China Cock —Sanford. As a four-year-old Cockpit won the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot comfortably from a big field. He is to leave England on May 6th, and on his arrival in the Dominion it will be decided whether he is to bo raced or put to the stud.

A yearling colt, by Tea Tray from Baby Doll was shipped to Australia from Auckland last week. ,It is understood that he has been purchased by the well-known Melbourne sportsman, Mr B Chaffey. owne r of Whittier and Manfred. Baby Doll, dam of the youngster, is an Australian-bred mare by Bobadil —Sessa, by Wallace. Bachelor Gay is reported to be in. a rather bad way. One of his legs lias given his trainer a lot of trouble, and Mr Irwin's iroart hurdler is not likely to be a starter again this season. The Trentham trainer, J. McLaughlin, is seriously ill in a. private hospital in Wellington.

H. Hickey lias thirteen horses in woi-k at Hastings at present. Two ot | his team, Purseproud, and Higa, Heather, will race at Waipukurau at Easter, and other members of his team will be competing at Feilding. The Otautau Racing Club is. finding some difficulty in fixing a date for *ts Annual Meeting, which had to be postponed from last Wednesday on account of heavy rain. It was decided to apply for permission to hold the meeting on the Invercargill course on Wednesday, April 13th, three days prior to the opening of the jßrverton Meeting, In© committee' of the Southland Racing Club granted tlie use of its course, but the Southland District Committee having received an objection from the Riverton Racing: Club, decided at its meeting on Friday night that it could not recommend the Racing Conference to agree to the request.

The "Weekly Press and Referee" will make its appearance to-day, and there is much within its pages- that will be found of value by followers of the turf. Recent racing throughout the Dominion is fully reviewed, while Spectator discusses the principal handicaps for the Auckland Meeting next month. Wayfarer, Antisthenes. W.A., The Rook, - The Marquis, and Mere Mere have their usual features, while correspondents relate happenings throughout the week in their respective districts. In the trotting section Searchlight, in addition to telling of a visit to Irvington Lodge and commenting on the handicaps for the big event at Addington on the 16th inst., has a budget of items of general interest.

TROTTING NOTES. Acceptances for the two e.vents at the Hororata R.C.'s Annual Meeting close to-day at 8 p.xn. Tho Ellesmere County T.C. has received excellent acceptances for its Annual Amongst the horses engaged are Grey Cloud, Springtime, Conara, Auto Minto, Yen, Wenlo, Searchlight Lad, Asset, Pavlova, His Majesty, Nelson Wood, Great Amazou, Duco, Midland, and Todd Bingen., For the Ellesmere County T.C.'s Annual Meeting, to be held at Leeston to-morrow, the train arrangements are as follows Passengers and horses (from Chrietchurch only) will leave Christchurch at 8.35 a.m. Horses from intermediate stations will require to travel by the 7.35 a.m. train.

Satisfactory acceptances, have been received by tne Wanganui T.C. for its Annual Meeting, which opens on Saturday and concludes on Monday. Fourteen horses stand their ground in the Cup, including Direct Morning, Pearl Coronado, Kokiritea, Uncle Bert, Great Actress, Blue Glen, Petroleuse, and Karma, while in the minor events are such useful performers as Ngatira, Miss Leda, Raima, Great Change, Louisiana, Peter McDonald, Explosion, Bell Dial, Some Jazz. Lou Pronto, Cora Tacks, tJramic, and Sungleam.

Logan Park is nioely treated in the Hawera Cup on 12 yards, or 4.41, as the Logan Pointer gelding registered 4.40 2-5 when he won the Fairlie Handicap at Timaru last month.

The Ashburton owned and trained Kempton and Ayr are well placed at Hawera and every encouragement has been held out to their owner, Mr H. F. Nicoll, to make the trip. The successful pacer, Becky Logan, has been transferred from I'. -G. Holmes' stable to N. C. Price's and iu future will be trained at New Brighton.

F. It. Bust left for the north on Monday with Great Actress, who is engaged at tho Wanganui T.C.'s Annual Meeting. The Nelson owner-trainer, L. F. Tierkctt. will assist at AVanganui with Benm€ Dillon. Louisiana, Caterpillar, and Hope Dillon, while L. Davidson, who trains in the same district, will havo Dillon's Pride and Sungieam to jepresent his stable. Native Chief will not be a starter iu llio Easter and the Plying Handicaps on tho opening day of the Metropolitan T.C.'s Easter Meeting.

[ A large number of Canterbury owned | and trained horses are engaged at HaI v/era. Amongst those with horses in the list and likely to assist are F. E. Bust, W. J. Tomkin6on, H. Fox, E. C. McDermott, E. Humphreys. J. Bryee, W. T. Lowe. T. H. McKenzie, A. G. Wilson, 11. Frost. N. L. Price, S. J. Thomas, E. E. Mills, D. Withers. M. B. Edwards, 0. E. Hooper, and D. Warren. The weather conditions were all that could be desired for training work at Addington yesterday morning, and though no really fast work was accomplished, quite a lot of interesting work was witnessed. As is usual, Harry Audubon was first out, and gave a good showing over a couple of circuits without the hopples. This horse is coming oil nicely and fairlv revels in his work.

Great Amazon moved very freely while covering two miles, and got through his work in good stylo. She is engaged at Ellesmere, and if started, is sure to go well.

Kreisler, Trimmer, and Logan Park gave a good showing over a mile and a half, finishing in the order named. Elzear, Napland, Bell Harold, and Holly Boy worked one mile and a half together. This quartette gave a pleasing exhibition, with Holly Boy in charge over the concluding stages.

Nota Bene alone covered one mile and a half, moving freely throughout. Audobell and Dusky Pointer were companions over two miles, both getting through their work in good style.

Audominion and a stable-niato were given good useful work. The former is last getting into racing condition. Bridget Galindo and Pete Peter worked about one mile and a half, without being extended. Both could have improved on the time. Sheik, without the hopples, was given solid work, and looks really well.

Locanda Mac covered two miles and was always going well. His owner is not pleased with the handicap allotted him, and he may not be accepted for on the first day of the Easter Meeting. Golden Bubble moved freely in a work out over a couple of solid rounds. Stunt Artist got through strong useful work, and was anxious to increase the pace. Peter McKinncy, who looks bright and well, covered two miles in good style, though he broke on two occasions.

Eoutine and Wild Hebe were companions over a solid run two miles, both giving a good display. Sarella and Wenlo were apportioned the same task and went evenly throughout.

Logan Holme alone covered one mile and a half, but was tiring badly at the finish. His wind is badly affected now.

Bingcn Wood was restricted to steady pacing. He looks well.

Sahib was given two miles, but was always doing it easy. St. Maura, who looks very well, was given about one mile and a half, and gave a nice exhibition. Little Logan got through steady work.
