SOCIETY MEETS. The Canterbury' Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met last evening, the president, Mr A. VT. McGillivray presiding. A letter was received from the Abattoir authorities stating that they had given favourable consideration to the humane system of killing, but had decided to carry on under the prevailing system. ' Discussion ensued tegarding the disposal of the carcases of dogs which were destroyed by the Inspector. It was decided to ask the City Council to dispose of them as rubbish. , Upon the chairman s recommendation ttoe Inspector reported on a. trotting horse being whipped hard in the Eclipse Handicap at the Roval Meeting. Mr White said the whip had been unouly , used at the end of the race, but on examI ining it in the birdcage he found no trace ot W S Inspector, Mr D. J. White, reported that he had cautioned eight different owners of stock and two had been prosecuted, one for a bad case of cruelty to a horso.
