COOK MEMORIAL DEFACED. (PXSSS ASSOCIATION TILZOSAX.) BLENHEIM, February 14. An act of vandalism has been reported to the secretary of the Cook Memorial Committee in connexion with the national monument at Ships' Cove. ft appears that visitors to the Sounds' at Christmas time defaced the tablet on the memorial by carving names deeply beside the inscription, concluding with the words, inside the ornamental border:—"Palmerston North Y.M.O.A. party; . Christmas, 1928.27." On the wooden crosspicce of tho anchor surmounting the memorial a great many names had been scratched. A. copy of the namss has leen taken. with a view lo further action.
