NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN.

A special meeting of the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women was held on Thursday, February 10th. Thoso present wore: Mrs C. A. Fraer (in the chair), Mcsdames T. E. Taylor, J. Gore-Newel 1, Bichards, Roberts, Tomlinson, Don Harvey, Cartwright, Smith, Barrel!, Misses Hull, Chaplin, Hood, Jamieson, Trent, Loveil-Smith (2), Baker, representing the Mothers' Union, W.C.T.U. the Women Teachers' Association, the Trained Nurses' Association, the Y.W.C.A., tho Social Hygiene Society, the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, the Girls' Friendly Society, and the Creche and Kindergarten Association. Apologies for absence were received from Miss Jessie Mackny, Mrs Lorimer, Mrs Mirams, Miss Howlett, and Mrs Taylor. Mrs Acheson was welcomed as a new honorary member of the branch. Arrangements for conferenco were discussed. A committee, consisting of Mosdnmos Tomlinson, Lorimer, Acheson, and' Misses Hood and Baker was appointed to provide refreshment for tho delegates during tho session. The following - were appointed as delegates from tho branch to the conference:— Mcsdames T. B. Taylor, Bichards, Mirams, Misses Henderson, Hull, Cardale, and Chaplin, Mrs Fraer having a seat on the 'Dominion Executive. Tho president announced that the Mayor would tender a civic reception to the delegates at 11.30 on March. Ist, the branch would entertain the visiting delegates at a reception in the Jellicoo Hall at 8 p.m. on March 2nd, and that a motor drive and tea at "The Sign of tho Kiwi" would foe arranged for the Thursday afternoon. Remits for conference were then discussed. The opening of tho To Orangu Home camo up for discussion, and it was decided to ask tho women Justices of the Peace to visit tho Home and report at the next meeting. The president stated that she and some members of the branch executive had that afternoon received a deputation from the unemployed, who wished the women to realise tho seriousness of the present situation and to do what they could to reliove tho position. After an earnest discussion the meeting expressed its deepest sympathy with the unemployed.

BRIDE-ELECT HONOURED

At her homo in Mansfield avonuo yesterday afternoon, Miss Peggy Norton was hostess at a very pleasant party given in honour of .Miss Joyco Gibson, who is to be married to-morrow. The drawing room was decorated with blue and pink hydrangeas, and on the teatable were vases of pink carnations. After tea, Miss Gibson opened a number of parcels of many curious shapes which contained articles for tho equipment of the kitchen in her new home.
