LIFE-SAVING.
COMPETITIONS AT NEW BRIGHTON. The New Brighton Surf Bathing and LifeSaving Society held two life-saving competitions at New Brighton at the week-end, when the Owles Cup, a flve-tnan alarm event, and tha WaUon Cup, a single-handed rescue event, were contested. The cups were presented for competition between teams of the New Brighton Clnb. The competitions took plaeo at high tide, and tho general conditions wero good, although an undercurrent swept the competitors somewhat out of their eonrse.
