5000 ATTEND PICNICS.
RALWAYS BUSY DAY. The Railway Department had another busy day yesterday providing transport for many picnic parties to various holiday resorts. The totaJ number of people conveyed was about iOOO. The following iirms and institutions held their picnics:—Vacuum Oil l'ty., Ltd., to Stewart's Gully, 100; Bunting and Co. to Lyttclton, 200; Kaiapoi Woollen Co. to Ashburton. 2050; Scot:, Bros, to Lytelton, 310; Payntor and Hamilton to Oxford West. HX>; Aulsebrook and Co. to Little River, 8-50; A. J. White to Oxford West, 300; Addington Workshops. 800, to Leeston. The Shirley School also held its annual picnic to Ashhurton, when some 1100 people attended.
