RED CROSS SOCIETY.

MEETING OF FINANCE COMMITTEE. Tho Christchnrch Finance Committee of the Red Cross Society met on Tuesday. Present: Mr J. A. Flesher (chairman), Lady Wigrani, Mrs H. H. Lady Wigram reported that the billiards) table in the hut required a new cloth. It was decided that further information be obtained from Mr Hughes when in Christchurch and that tho matter be dealt with by the chairman and secretary. The Medical Superintcndo-it, Upper Sanatorium, Cashmere Hills, wrote "tating that tho cinema operator, H. Fawcett, had Men discharged from the sanatorium, and that A. E. El'.iason had been appointed in his place. This was approved A letter was received from the Medical Superintendent applying to have both billiard tables je-covered. Resolved that a quotation be obtained, and tho Hospital Board ac quaintcd with the amount which committee proposed to expend. The Social Secretary, Upper Sanatorium, wrote applying for a quarterly grant towards gramopnone records. Resolved mat these bo supplied on March Ist next. A letter from Wellington headquarters, covering copy of communication from the League of Red Cross Socioty re Bulgarian refugees, was received. The secretary reported that a sum of £3« is 3d had now come to hand from the "iToterton Red Cross fund. A letter was received from the »" 0 / ne y . 01 the Australasian Performing Right Association, warning the socioty sgiunst allowing any copyright musical wcrk to be performed in public without permission as required by law. The chairman stated that steps were being taken to ascertain in what way the copyright was being infringed. A letter was received from the heed office statins that the society's first aid certificates would be recognised by the Mines Department. , . _ , Nurse Christian, who is engaged m Red Cross peace time work in the Waimate district, reported that encouraging support was being shown in the formation of home nursing classes in Waimate, at Studholme Junction, Waituna, Norton's reserve, and Waihao Downs. Health talks aro also being given In the Girl Guides. , It was decided that letters of thanks and appreciation of assistance rendered be sent l«. his Worship the Mayor of Waimate, Rev Canon Cocks, Mr Crccmcr, the matron of the Waimate Hospital, and to Mrs Johnson, who, it is regretted, has been obliged to resign her position as honorary secretary.
