RAILWAYMEN PROTEST. [THE PEESS Specikl Service.] WELLINGTON, February 11. Criticism of the immigration policy of the Government was voiced at the continuation to-day of the national conference of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. During the discussion, the point was stressed i>j delegates that, far from being antagonistic to tho immigrant, they had a good deal of sympathy with m»ortunate workers who came out to «ew Zealand believing that they were sure of a position. The necessity for publishing information in England regarding conditions in New Zealand was also urged bv several delegates, and it was mentioned that on tho day of air Coates* arrival in London, the *ew Zealand Labour Party bad cabled to t!.o "Dailv Herald" as follows: "Unemployment in New Zealand more sojrere than for many years. Much distress in cities. Government failed to meet situation, its immigration pdlicv accentuating difficulty." The following resolution was adopted unanimously:— "That this conference of the A.S.R.S. protest against the Government's immigration policy being continued in view of unemployment in the country. We feel that workers are entitled to the sanw measure of protection ts that afforded by the Government to another section of the community recentlv. when a protest was made against tneir market being flooded by dumping."
