GREAT JERSEY AND CLYDESDALE SALE.

What may. prove to be the most important pedigree sale of the year of jersey Cattle and Clydesdale Horses is to bo lield at i'einuka on i'hursday, February 1/tli, IU2V, when the "Ohape'' nerd, belonging to .ua»si's Murray and jkiaruii, will be entirely dispersed without reserve. Mr iUartui, wiio lias been managing tho lieru, liiiub it necessary to uevoic his entire time to his extensive veterinary practice at Cliristcliurch, hence the decision to dissolve partnership and sell tho herd, 'though the herd does not rank amongst the oldest in the land it has quickly come into prominence owing to the quality of the animals imported direct from Jersey and the New Zealand purchases. The purchase at auction of "Pretty's Flirt" (soon after becoming the champion butter-fat Jersey of the Dominion with a C.O.E. of 10101b fat) for the record sum of 800 guineas, waa quite an event. Whenever really good Jerseys were available, they were purchased; price was a secondary < consideration. The catalogues obtainable from the Auctioneers snows butter-fat records in every pedigree. A senior two-year-old with a record of 7121b fat shows as the dam of one lot. An aged cow that produced 9971b fat in 365 days is dam of another. Many have creditable show-ring records. "Natalie's Ninette," one of the three imported cows, was reserve champion at the laet Timaru Show. When fully acclimatised, she will win championships. "Ursanne Bowlina," another imported beauty, comes from the bluest of blue blood. Two of her sons will be sold. A great feature of these imported cows, is the quality of their udders. Of the Clydesdales, the fact that "Buchlyvie Favourite'' is to be sold will interest every Clydesdale breeder in Australasia. He was imported from Scotland and has done more for the breed in New Zealand than any other horse. His stock have won championships everywhere, but more important still, they are passing the quality on to other generations. Two outstanding sons worth mentioning are "Middlerig Sunray" sdld at Mr Boag's sale for. 1000 guineas, and "Buchlyvie Keynote," purchased by Mr Thos. Bobson, of New South Wales, who won the championship with him at the Sydney Royal. "Buchlyvie Favourite" is 14 years old and as active as a five-year-old. His sire woe in active service until he was 26 years old. The sale also includes two four-year-old stall ions, a son and a grandson of "Buchlyvie Favourite" and a two-year-old by "Middlerig Sunray." The mares include "May Laurie" a rising four-year-old 'by "Bonnio Dene" (imp.) from a champion daughter of "Buchlyvie Favourite," with one exception, slie has won every time shown, and was reserve chainpion at the last Christchurch Show. She is one of New Zealand's greatest mares and has a promising future. "Windermere Proud Tira," her two-year-old daughter, "Proud Eileen." "Sunra.v's Pride" and ''Sunray s Miss Graceful" arc a quartette rarely equalled in anv stud. "Pride" and "Graceful" both hare foals at foot. All mares are in foal. The sale is an unreserved one, and is jointly in tho hands of the Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., of Timaru, and Messrs Newton. King, Ltd., of New Plymouth. —6
