EXCITING CAPTURE.
YOUNG MAN WITH LOADED RIFLE. (rasas isiocuTioi teleobah.) DANNEVIRKE, February 9. The actions of a young Makotuku resident yesterday disturbed tho pastoral quietness of the country township, and the excitement rosultod in the Dannovirko police being summoned to arrest tho individual who had allegedly run amok. Constables Canning and Gibbs went to within a short distance of Mataniau to tako up a strategic position to intercept the man, who was reported to bo heading south by motor-car. They had just stopped whou an individual appeared in a cur and allegedly attempted to point a .303 rifle at Constablo Canning, who grasped tho rifle by the barrel, and Constable Gibbs pulled the weapon away, after which tho man was taken from the car, violently struggling, and leg-roped and handcuffed. Subsequently lie was brought to Danncvirkc.
When he was captured the rifle ho had was loaded, und he had four other cartridges in his possession. Ho also had an unloaded pea rifle. The maji was subsequently medically examined, and the decision of tho doctors dispensed with tho necessity of bringing him before the Court on several serious charges. The unfortunate man developed strange symptoms in the morning, allegedly going about Makotuku holding up residents nt tho point of a gun and after examining any papers in their possession allowing them to k<>. Wrtunntcly nothing serious resulted.
