FIRE BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. In his report to the Christchurch Fire Board, Superintendent C. Warner makes appreciative reference to the activities of the works fire brigade at the Islington freezing works. He states: "On December 26th a fire broke out at tlio Islington freezing works. The.works brigade turned out and worked exceedingly well, with the result that the outbreak was under control by the time the City Brigade arrived. I appreciate the good services of that brigade, and consider the company, in their own interests, should give the members of that corps every encouragement, by equipping them with sufficient plant and a suitable meeting room for their recreation, for withont their assistance in keeping a fire in check, there is every chance of serious damage being dono to n large portion of the works." This report was received at a meeting of the Board last evening, at which there wero present: Messrs A. Williams (chairman), J. R. Cameron, H. R. Rusbridge, K. W. Robinson, and G. I). Mcllraith.

The Inspector of Fire Brigades wrote asking that a senior officer might be detailed to patrol Warner's Hotel from 6 p.m. until 8 a.m. during the visit of tho Duke and Duchess of York on March 12th, 13th. 14th, and 15th.

The secretary reported that an officer had been appointed to carry out a similar duty when the Prince of Wales was In residenco at the Christchurch Club, and that the charge had been 2s 6d an hour. He had replied to Inspector Hugo on these lines.—The secretary's action was endorsed. Tho Wellington Fire Board advised that It had before it a suggestion from the Masterton Fire Board that a conference of Boards be held at an early date. • The Wellington Board was agreeablo to tho holding of a conference there early in May, and it was considered that It would be of great help in overcoming many of the difficulties with which Flro Boards were beset.—The Question was held over.

The secretary reported that the new Sydenham station building was now completed The Superintendent reported that the nu"mber of calls received between December 9th to February 2nd was 59.
