"THE WAR SPIRIT."
0 MILITARY PAGEANT DEPLORED. "I think the Church should show its mind on militarism," said tho Rev. P. Robertson nt a meeting of the Christehurch Presbytery yesterday, when speaking on the military pageant to be held in Christehurch.
He said that all the good in pageants was being prostituted to foster vho war spirit. "Aro there red-tab officers behind it?" he asked. Ho urged that the Presbytery take tho matter up, saying: "It is usual, after passing a motion deploring something, to leave it at that, and make ourselves ridiculous.' He thought that it would not show good taste for tho Church to stag© a counter pageant depicting the horrors of war, but ho suggested that the Church or the Bible classes could stage a missionary pageant. He moved tho following motion: "That the Presbytery deplores the undue glorification of militarism in the forthcoming pageant, as it is contrary to the spirit of the League of Na'tions, of which New Zealand is a member." The Moderator, the Rev. J. S. Young, called for a seconder to tho motion, but no support was forthcoming, and the motion lapsed.
