SUMMARY FOR JANUARY
(TRBSB ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELL-INGTO.Y, February 7. The following suomary of tho weather for January has been nupplied by the Director of the Meteorological Department: The outstanding feature of January's weather was the heat wave that obtained in the latter half of the month. This long dry spell caused most part* of the Dominion to show rainfall totals well below tho average for (ho month. The exceptions were rrincipuliv owing (o minor disturbances chiefly nfTccling certain localities. For inetanci;, in the first week of January there wero thunderstorms in parts on tho 2nd and 6th, accompanied by heavy downpours, and in the same period cyclonic disturbances passed off Enst Cape, bringing highl" beneficial rainfall to tho East Coast of tho Xorth Island. A widespread disturbance rnied between the 10th and ICth, but it was of email intensity in the West Coast and southern district* of the South Island.
Tho early part of tho month was good for crops and the growth of grass, ljut tho warm sad dry period in the 'atter half affected pasturage, particularly on light land.
