18/ CABLE—PBEBB A6SOCUTIOS—COPYRIGHT.) (ArSTBALIAS AKD S.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.)
BRISBANE, February 7
As the result of heavy rains, the Belltield coal mine is flooded. Efforts to drain it were unsuccessful, and the mine will probably not reopen. Such extensive damage was caused on the Etheridgo railway, extending from Almaden, in tho Cairns district, to Forsyth, a distance of 142 miles, by tho recent floods, that tho Minister for Railways is considering the advisability of permanently closing the line. The inhabitants of the district are in an alarming condition, owing to shortage of food supplies, which the Railway Department is now sending by road.
