LATE EMPEROR OF JAPAN

FUNERAL CEREMONY,

TOKIO, February 6.

Everything is in readiness for the funeral ceremonial of the late Emperor of Japan, commencing at 6 o'clock on the evening of February 7th. When the cortege leaves the Imperial Palace 8000 will be aotually participating. Snow fell heavily yesterday, but thousands of workmen, assisted by a bright sun, have already cleared the entire route and its approaches. The ceremonial hall is in Shinjuku Park, a western suburb, where, before burial, Shinto services are held. The funeral procession in the streets will be lighted only by flares. The ritual will be carried out by funeral commissioners, and the musicians will wear ancient costumes. The catafalque will be drawn by trained oxen. Prince Chichibu will represent the Emperor, who will not participate in the procession, but will attend the hall, proceeding by a different route.
