CANTERBURY FRUITGROWERS AFFECTED. During a short discussion it was suggested, at a meeting of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers' Association on Saturdav night, that the tariff on imported fruit, raw and preserved, should be increased. The manager of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation, Ltd., Mr 11. E. Napier, wrote that the Tariff Revision Committee had commenced to tako evidence on matters affecting imported articles, and among the articles li.«ted for revision were several of interest to tlio fruitgrowing industry. M the last meeting of tlio Federation directors it was decided that the Federation should give evidence on behalf of the whole industry when the Tariff Committee was sitting in Wellington. Ono of the most important matter? to be brought forward would be the duty on imported- apples, and it was (he intention of the Federation to ask that the duty on imported apples bo doubled for the months' of September, October, and November. The secretary, Mr 11. E. Morgan, pointed out that the suggestion of increasing the tariff had already been included in a remit which had been forwarded to the Fruitgrowers' Conference.
