CYCLIST KILLED.
FATAL MOTOK SMASH. Edwin John Leathern, a married mart, aged 53 years, of 07 Lincoln road, was killed Ift a motor accident on Saturday night, at tho corner of Clyde and Riecarton roads. It appears that Leathern Wa< riding a bicycle, carrying another machine over his shoulder at the time of the smash, and did not notice the motor approaching. Tho motor-car, driven by Robert Patrick Grant, of Yaldhurtt, was proceeding along Lincoln road at nbout fifteen miles an hour. Th« driver noticed tho cyclist, and iuimediately swerved in towards the kerbing, but the front mudguard caught tho Cycle, and hurled tho rider to the ground. Tho car had a full complement of passengers, and was returning from the Cheviot races. < An inquest wns opened before tho Coroner, Mr 11. A. Young, yesterday, when evidence of identification was §lven by a brother-in-law of deceased, eorge William Baker. The inquest was adjourned sine die.
