DAY OF PICNICS.
THOUSANDS USE THE RAILWAYS. Saturday was a day of picnics, o\rr a dozen different parlies leaving the City for country districts. There was an exodus of approximately 400" people, and the destinations embraced a wide range of picnic resorts. The picnics were as follows: —Duck worth, Turner, and Co., Otirn, 550: Plumbers and Tinsmiths, West Oxford. 050: Canterbury By-Products Co., Dunsandel, '250; W'ecks", Ltd., Bakaia, 150; Weston Bros.. Ltd., Kakaia, 100; "Lyttelton Times" Co., (Jobbing Department), Stewart's GHIy, 1G0; Coulls, Somcrlield, and Wilkic, Ltd., Atnberley, 100; Lane. Walker, and Kudkin, Lyt telton, L' 00; Btirnhani Sunday School.'Ashburton 50; Post Office Savings Bank, Stewart's Gu11y,.70: Goss's, Ltd.. Lvttelton, 130; Woolston School, Little Uiver (two trains), S00; Christcliurch Millinery Co., 30. Yesterday about IGOO travelled to Otira for the Tramways picnic. To-day the Belfast picnic, including 000 people, will bo held at Little River, and the Methvcn Convent School, nnd Mctliven District High School combined, will go to Tiniaru. The latter excursion will include COO people. On Saturday the only picnic which did not reach expectations as far as, numbers were concerned, was the Woolston School outing. Over 1250 were expected to travel to Little Uiver in two trains, each of eleven cars, but four cars were taken off the second train, 800 people making the trip. Tho Parnassus express contained S cars, extra accommodation being provided for race-goers. Two cars were put on a special train, which conveyed horses to Cheviot.
