ABOLISHED.
CIRCUIT COURT AT INNISFAIL,
;BI CABLI—TRESS ASSOCIATION— COI'TWGHT.) (ACSTBALIAN ASD U.S. CABLE ASSOCIATION.)
BRISBANE, February 4
The Government has decided that Innisfail, in North Queensland, shall bo deprived of tho Circuit Court sittings. The Attorney-General in a statement said it had been represented to him on several occasions that a section of the jurors at Innisfail had proved averso from bringing in verdicts of guilty, and that intimidation had been resorted tu in some cases. A Supremo Court Judge investigated and reported that he regarded the allegations as true, and recommended that the Circuit Court at Innisfail be abolished. The Government therefore decided that it had no option but to deprive Innisfail of the Court. Tliis is tho second time in the history of Queensland that such action has been taken, the Government over fifty years ago having deprived Roma of tho privilege in connexion with an alleged cattle-stealing case, when the jury failed to convict! despite evidence which the Crown held was indisputable
The Roma case inspired the plot of Rolfe Boldrewood's "Robbery Under Arms."
