SUMNER ITEMS.

Mr and Mrs P. F. Mana (Papanui road) and family have returned to town'after spending three weeks' holiday in the borough. Mrs H. J. Marriner (Nayland 6treet) has returned from a visit to Mrs Frank Petre, at Mount Soniers. Mrs J. G. Collins and her children have returned to Springfield road after spending the holidays at the seaside. Mt and Mrs E. \V. Pidgeou (Bealey avenue) have taken a house in Sumner for a few weeks. Mr A. Witi-iy is a visitor to the borough. Mr and Mrs A. E. Aekroyd and family have returned to town "after spending the holidays in Sumner. Mr and Mrs J. S. Guthrie (Holly road) and their children, are at present staying in Sumner. Mrs J. Lcithead (Duuedin) is paying a short visit to her sister. Mrs Isaac Wilson. Mr and Mrs Warren Fisher and family are at present staying in their house at Sumner. Miss Cora Andrews has returned from a holiday spent in Australia. Llle-Saving. Mr S. K. Bassett presided over a committee meeting of the Sumner Branch of the Koval Life-Saving Society. Present: Messrs J. C. McDonald, J. S. Hawker, V. P. Spillcr, A. F. Taylor, K. B. Allen, and J. B. Pye. The Head Centre wrote asking for the use of a club reel for the Canterbury team competing for tho Nelson Shield. The request was acceded to. The club captain reported that good work had been done by the Kesteven Cup team now in training, consisting of Bolam, Eales, A. P. Taylor, K. B. Allen, White, Spiller, Bichardsou, and Bassett. The meeting considered a report on the recent petty thefts and decided to give the matter immediate attention. It was reported that the general public, during the holidnys, had made general use of the club dressing shed. It was decided to deal with the matter j at once, with a view to putting a stop to the practice. The meeting decided to take steps to improve the lighting in the men's dressing room. Schools. The borough primary schools opened on Tuesday with good attendances. The School for the Deaf and the secondary department of the Sumner District High School both resume on Monday. Borough Picnic. A benefit picture show for the sports fund of the borough picnio is to be held nest week. Tho committee dealing with the matter report receiving a good deal of public support.
