STRAY DOGS.
* AUCKLAND WANTS NUISANCE CHECKED. [THE PEJBB3 gpecUl IStrvics.] AUCKLAND, Fobraary 4. A proposal to limit the liberty of dogs was considered by the Aucklar.fi Citv Council, the suggestion being that a by-rlaw similar to that now in force in Deronportr should be put into force. The suggestion came from the Chief Traffic Inspector, who said that many cotoplaints had been received of damage done to private gardens by stray flogs. He submitted a draft by-law as follows: -r-
"No person shall allow any don to accompany him, or stray on any reserve, private, or public street, under the control &f the Auckland City Council unless the do.? is continually kept under control by means of n leading chain or strap, or other efficient contrivance."
The Inspector said the Devonport bvlaw provided, further, that it should be lawful for an** constable or officer of the Council to seise and detnin any doc not under control, avd if unclaimed for -IS hours, to destroy it. nnd nip that the provisions r( the by-law should nor nnplv to drovers drinns stcck i" the borough.
