DEATH OF MR PETER GRANT.
SUCCUMBS IN PICTURE THEATRE A well-known sportsman, Mr Peter Grant, died at the Grand Picture Theatre about 8.20 last night. The late Mr Grant, who was in the company of two men, had been in the theatre only a few minutes when he had a fainting fit. He was immediately carried front the theatre, and artificial respiration was resorted to, bat without success. A doctor was summoned, but could only pronounce life extinct. The late MrGrant had been a patient in the Lewisham Hospital for some weeks, suffering from heart trouble, and bad been in poor health for some time. Born at Hexham, Northumberland, England, in 1868, the late Mr Grant finished his schooling there, and at the age of 14 came to New Zealand, where he was apprenticed to a blacksmith. After several years in that occupation ho joined Mr M. F. Barnett to found the firm which was known to racing men in every part of New Zealand. The late Mr Grant was, in his younger days, very much interested in all branches of sport, especially in boxing, and was for some years on the committee of the Christchurch Boxing Association. The late Mr Grant had many business interests throughout the country, and Was particularly interested in the picture theatres. Mr Grant's partnership with Mr Barnett was unique. The two men agreed to partnership for one day only, but for thirty-five years they were in business together, and there wai never a definite agreement of partnership between them. An inquest will not be necessary. _
