TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

MEETING OF BOARD. The Technical College Board of Governor* met last night, Mr McGregor Wright presiding. Tho Buildings Committee reported that the extension of the Girls' Hostel had bees put in hand before Christmas, and vat noir well on in progress. The cost was £1273.

The Chamber of Commerce, in sending its usual donation of £2l, said that tho question of further donations would be considered by a sub-committee. Donations were rcceWed of £ls from the Canterbury Employees' Association, and £1 from the Bricklayers' Union; The Canterbury Sheep Owners' Union Increased its donation from £lB to £2O.

The Director reported:— Hiti C. E. Robinson has returned to Christchurch after nine months' leave in England and Europe, and has resumed her duties on the teaching staff. Miss M. D. Bitbop has also taken up Miss Wilklo's work as principal of the Girls' Hostel during the absence of the latter on a trip to America and England. Mr A. W. Lipscomb has succeeded Mr J. B. Gsrnett as agricultural instructor. Mr Gsrnett leaves for England before the end of February. Tbo Technical High School reopened on Tuesday, February Ist, and the roll number up to date is alightly over 930.' This includes 474 new students, which is slightly more than last year. Tha return of a larger number of old students, however, makes the Technical High School roll over 80 more than it was this time last year. I have been regretfully obliged to refuse admission to a number of boys for the engineering, carpentry, and cabinetmaking courses; as these were full up towards the end of last week, and it is impossible to form any new classes. Girls have also been refused for tho commercial course as the classes are quito full.. As indicated, no additional classes have been formed for new pupils, but it will probably be necessary to form an additional class in tho second-year woodworking boys. It may be necessary to apply for the appointment of another assistant teacher, but I shall be better ablo to judge the necessity for such an appointment when the return of old students is fairly complete, probably about the end of next week.
