POWER BOARDS.
RECOMMENDATIONS BY SECRETARIES' CONFERENCE. (FRESS ASBOCIATIO* TELEGRAU.) PALMERSTON N., February 4. The Power Board secretaries' conference concluded yesterday afternoon. Tho election of officers resulted:—Executive, Messrs Campbell (Invercargill), chairman, Dash (Timaru), Brown (Wairarapa), McArthur (To Awamutu), Spcer (Auckland), Smith (Wanganui), and Eglinton (Palmerston North). Remits carried included one tiCuUng with guarantees for the consumption of current which recommended that such gimranteo shall be a charge upon land for the purpose of security. The conference also recommended tho establishment of arrangements for combined buying by Boards to securo the most advantageous scale of discounts.
It was' decided that, tlio next conference be held at' Wellington in February 1928. Tho chnirmau (Mr Campbell) referred to tho possibility of securing simplicity in meter reading and billing. Ho announced that his Board was introducing a scheme which would considerably reduce tho cost of reading. It would also mean fewer bills for tho consumer, give tho Board a'steady inflow of revenue, allow a discount system for advanced payments, and cut down the amount outstanding at each March- 31st. He hoped to report favourably on its working at tho next conference. The scheme would mean a minimum saving of £IOOO per annum in wages alone. In view of the general public opposition to the countryside being disfigured with advertisements and hoardings the conference condemned the suggestion that advertising be allowed on electric polos--. , The conference approved the use <<t electric road signs, especially lo r night use.
