LYTTELTON NEWS.
. Borough Council. The Lyttelton Borough Council met lost evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr F. K. Sutton), Crs. W. Wales, T. Hempstalk, W. W. Toy, M. J. Miller, J. J. Gower, W. R. Newton, J. R. Webb, and A. McDonald. An auctioneer's license was granted to the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. The Lyttelton Fire Brigade forwarded a report on a number of fire-plugs which needed repairing. On the motion of Cr. Hempstalk, seconded by Cr. Miller, it was decided to carry out the repairs forthwith. Mr S. Edgar wrote, complaining that in wet weather, storm-water was permitted to flow on to his property in Voelas road. Cr. Miller moved that the engineer be asked to report on the matter. Cr. Hempstalk, in seconding the motion, stressed the need for urgency, as several properties in the vicinity were affected. The District Traffic Manager, New Zealand Railways, wrote as follows:—"With reference to the deputation, consisting of yourself and Lyttelton bus owners, which waited on me recently in connexion with motor-bus services between Corsair Bay and Lyttelton, I have to advise you that the matter was referred to the Railway Board, who regret being unable to assist in the matter of having the Regulations regarding insurance waived." The Mayor said it was a matter for regret that nothing could be done, but the Council had done what it could. Residents felt the need of a buß service. In response to a request by the committee of the Lyttelton District High School, it was decided to proclaim Thursday, February 10th, a public holiday in the borough, on the occasion of the school's annual picnic. Band Concert. The Lyttelton Marine Band has agreed to give a band concert at Corsair Bay on Sunday afternoon. A collection will be taken up in aid of the Beach Improvement Fund.
