MAORI ORIGIN.
A NOVEL CLAIM. (BV CABLE—PRESS • SgOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND X.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, September 19. A novel claim regarding the origin of the Maoris is made in a 400-page book on Maori symbolism by Ettie A. Rout, the New Zealander. She asserts that the Maori left ancient Assyria; 1 crossed Europe to Portugal, thence migrated to Mexico, and went through Central America to Peru, thence to Easter Island across Polynesia to New Zealand. This migration is ingeniously traced by means of decorative art, native dances, food plants, jade ornaments, and similar customs. Sir William Arbuthnot Lane has written a. eulogistic prefaco to the bcok. Oiher authorities arc supporting the claims made.
