HISTORIC AKAROA.

THE RANFURLY, SHIELD. THE "WEEKLY PRESS" j PICTURES. Next Saturday Akaroa reaches another historic milestone in the celebration of the jubilee of its inclusion among the boroughs of the Dominion, and takes the opportunity of unveijing a memorial to its early settlers, who, though French, were among the leading pioneers of the Britain of the South. No more appropriate time could have been chosen for the publication of pictorial engravings of old Akaroa, and those that appear Ln this week's issue of the "Weokly Press" will be most interesting for both reasons. The beautiful Betting of the borough as seen in the views of the north and the south ends, and from Children's Bay, the Post Office, and an old mud cottage, the esplanade, the war memorial, the monument at Green's Point, and other views are striking records of one of the most picturesque places iii New Zealand, and show, as happily as black and white can, some of the attractions that draw so many visitors every year. Another feature of the issue is the series of pictures of the groat contest at Lancaster Park between the Rugby representatives of Hawke's Bay and Canterbury for possession of the Ranfurly Shield. In the page and a half of engravings many of the leading incidents are given, for the thousands to see who could not be present, of a match which drew the largest attendance ever recorded at the Park.

The Imperial Parliamentary delegates attending the congress in Australia were Lut a few hours in New Zealand on their way from England, but even in that short time they managed a visit to Rotorua where they were splendidly entertained by the Maoris, and the trip provided a number of photographs which are reproduced in the "Weekly Press" that will be on sale to-mor-row. There are many overseas and other local pictures that go to make the issue a highly interesting one.
