COUNTY COUNCILS

OXFORD. At tie ordinary monthly meeting .of the Council there were present:—Councillors R. P. Henderson (chairman), H. F. Luers, J. McGrath, T. Powell, S. W. Meyer, A. Meyer, and E. Skurr. On the motion of the chairman a resolution of sympathy was passed with Mrs J. Marshall and family in their sad bereavement. It was decided to place on record the valuable services rendered to tho county by Councillor T. C. Horn during his term of office. The monthly report, which was adopted, stated that two groynes had been put in the Eyro river at Smith's, and a groyne had been put in above the Eyre dam, the groyne at Pavilka s had been repaired; part of Woodside road had been graded, and a groyne and stop-bank had been put in above the Copper s Creek bridge. A letter was received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands stating that the Land Board had decided not to vest the remaining portion of Keserve 3739 in the Council. Cr. A. Meyer reported that the offer of Messrs R Davis, ti Feim, and L. Meyer t-o supply the teams free for the shingling of the South tJyre road was still open, but the teams wore busy at present, and the clerk would be informed wheD they are ready. It was resolved to carry out an inspection of the county. It was decided to clean out the lower ends of all the fords in the county. It was resolved to ropair Candy's bridge. It was decided to shingle part of Steffan's road if arrangements can be made for the teams. Cr. E. W. Meyer waß elected the Council's representative on the Main Highways Board. In reply to a letter from the Council a letter was received from the Chiel Postmaster, asking, in the event of having mails carried to Oxford by motor on days the trains are not running, if the Council was prepared to meet the coal as in the past. The clerk was instructed to write, and inform the Postmaster that the Council considered the cost should be borne by tho Postal Department. A letter was received from Mr Spray asking tho Council to repair the bridge over the main water race. It was decided to do so. It was resolved to raise the bridge over the mum water race at Mcfiillivray's. A letter was received from the Cust-VVest fcyreton Farmers Union asking for the Council's support in urging the Commissioner of State Forests to have made a report on the suitability of the waste manuka scrub lands for aforestation purposes. The clerk was instructed to write to the Commisisoner 6trongly supporting the proposition.
